Well, here we are. I have been hosting a webpage for several years with just a few photos of examples of my work, and decided that this blog page will do the same job just as well!
If you have found this, you probably got my webpage info at a show or department store. I started engraving in April 2004. It was an interesting story - how I got started. I began doing calligraphy in the late 70's - it seemed a natural extension of all the lettering I had done up to that time. In High School, I was the one that made all the program covers, lettered all the pep club signs, and doodled incessantly exploring alphabets, design, and patterns. I started doing calligraphy on everything - huge poster-board cards, banners, and even adding machine tapes. Soon I was lettering everything in sight - and doing custom work for many customers.
I explored a variety of alphabets - italic, uncial, old english, copperplate, more. I made many interesting projects for people - then computers came on the scene and people started producing their own items using the many fonts that were available - people weren't willing to pay for calligraphy any more.
I was teaching a calligraphy class and searching for information on teaching "lefties" and came upon a site by Ken Brown. I had some of his books from the 70's when I was just starting out and decided to call the 800 number provided to inquire about this engraving technique. I had recently been in Chicago and saw some engraved wine bottles and thought there might be an opportunity here.
Ken answered the phone and convinced me to take his 3-day seminar in Plano Texas. Price included equipment, training, and tons of tips on how to get into business. 9 months later, I was in business - doing events at department stores and free-lance work for people in the community.
I can engrave on anything glass, metal or crystal. I do the beautiful copperplate calligraphy and fill it with a silver or gold finish and create beautiful gifts out of everyday items. Some of the most popular items I engrave are wine bottles, fragrance, guns, knives, plaques, mugs, vases, champagne flutes, and much more.
Give me a call if you'd like something done. I live in Hutchinson, Minnesota and serve the entire Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. I don't sell "stuff", but engrave on items you bring me.
Hopefully, the photos will give you some idea of the beautiful work I do - give me a call and I can give you some pricing for your items.
